Ahhh Spring in the Pacific Northwest, a time of new beginnings, a time to sow new seeds and nurture new growth.  And so it is with this blog, starting from the ground up as nothing more than the seed of an idea not all that long ago and now becoming a reality.  For this first post I would like to lay forth some basics of what I intend to do with this blog, who I intend to reach and where I see it going.

At the moment I am still trying to learn how to use the software and options available for laying the framework of the site itself, but in the long run you can expect to see a very extensive and richly formatted gardening information resource.  I will be creating regular posts on a wide variety of gardening subjects including step-by-step photo tutorials as well as product reviews and a plethora of planting and care suggestions to help you get the most out of all seasons and sections of your garden.  This will be done with an emphasis on sustainable, natural and organic gardening methods without forsaking the use of products, tools and techniques which offer convenience and efficiency.

As soon as I can get it set up I will be adding to the site what I foresee being a very popular and key element: "Ask The Oracle."  This will be essentially a "Dear Abbey" for gardeners where anyone with a gardening question or problem can write in and get answers.  Many of the more basic questions I will probably answer directly on the "Ask The Oracle" section itself, but the best ones will get answered in-depth as a post here on the main blog.  Also, if there is a question of merit that stumps me I may post it to the public here on the blog and encourage the gardening community to provide their answers as comments directly on the post.  I see this as being a very interactive tool which continually provides new material and interest for the blog as well as helping to build a strong following of not only readers but "participants".

My target audience is everyone who likes to garden or wants to garden, anywhere and everywhere, although Focusing on The United States.  It doesn't matter whether you have 500 acres, 500 square feet or just a balcony with a few pots; if you have an interest in gardening this blog is for you.  I see building this blog and site into a gardening phenomenon that will benefit and connect gardeners everywhere.  The plant material and seasonality presented in this blog will be largely focused for gardening in the Pacific Northwest region of North America since that is where I am currently based, however the techniques will essentially be universal and adaptable to most regions.  I have lived and gardened in many places over the years so I encourage followers from all over and will try to include advice in my posts for multiple climates whenever possible.

Hopefully sooner than later I will be developing a "Garden Oracle" presence on social media like Facebook and Twitter and perhaps a few other networking tools to help spread the word.  In the future I see adding video tutorials and eventually more lengthy "webisodes" and a more elaborate website to really take things up a few notches.  For now I'll focus on the basics necessary to make this an enjoyable, informative and useful blog which hopefully becomes a hit with gardeners everywhere.  So stay tuned and tell your friends to come see the Oracle!  Let's get gardening!
